Parents are opening up about the two biggest frustrations faced at home.
“Victorian parents are no longer feeling embarrassed or guilty about asking for help when it comes to their child’s behaviour” said leading children’s behavioural specialist, Chrissie Davies.
In fact, during the 15 years Ms Davies has worked in education with challenging children and their families, she said the stigma around parenting challenges is at its lowest.
“Families are becoming more open and honest about their frustrations at home – parents are talking more about why they’re feeling stressed, tired and emotional,” said Ms Davies, Director of Chaos to Calm Consultancy.
“As a result, parents are also relieved to discover they are not alone.”
Ms Davies reported, the two biggest challenges Victorian parents are currently grappling with are: 1. Getting children to sleep independently and right through the night; and 2. Meal time battles, including eating a wide variety of foods.
Both of these have major impacts on children’s ability to behave appropriately,” she said. “Lack of sleep, especially, is having a detrimental effect on all members of the family.”
Ms Davies will put effective strategies for dealing with challenging children’s behaviour in the spotlight when she hosts a series of upcoming workshops for Victorian families.
Her two-hour Positive Behaviour Management workshop: See the child NOT the behaviour is aimed at parents of children aged two to 12 years – and it’s selling out!
The workshop covers:
The workshops are humorous and educational, and aimed at creating better understanding of how to manage children’s disruptive behaviours within families.Ms Davies is well-known for getting incredible results as well as empowering and supporting parents to have the confidence they need to get their families back on track.
Kadie, mum of three from Yarraville who recently attended the workshop said: “Working with Chrissie Davies has changed our dinner times and family life in general forever. Finally, everyone is enjoying the family time without us resorting to screaming and threatening.”
It is clear that parents don’t want to resort to punishing or threatening their children to get them to listen or behave appropriately, said Ms Davies.
“I want families to walk away feeling inspired, empowered and more confident when it comes to positively managing children within families. When we connect with children’s hearts and brains – that’s when the real magic happens.”
